YI YI (2000)

The endless question, what is the meaning of life, is repeatedly asked by all family members in a household in Taipei.  Yang-Yang, the son, who is the youngest of them all, pursues what truth really is with a camera that he received from his father.  Their daughter, Ting-Ting, is experiencing guilt after an accident along with love through a neighbor.  The mother is feeling inadequacy in her existence and seeks spiritual help in order to fulfill her emptiness.  After a multitude of difficulty, the father, falls into a depression, which is enhanced by his feelings of lack of control.  Yi Yi is a long film with tremendously detailed character development, which brings more to the audience in retrospect.
