REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES (2002)

Ana has recently graduated from high school and she is dreaming of going to college.  Her English teacher thinks that she should apply for college and that she has a good chance for financial help, but a over-dramatized mother who is extremely critical of her causes Ana to rethink her dream of college.  Meanwhile, Ana meets her first love, works in her sister's sweatshop, and struggles with her mothers constant bickering of her weight.  Real Women Have Curves has an insightful script with socio-economical messages regarding self-esteem and class that produces an opportunity to view a 18-year old girl dealing with her mothers oppression.
