EEL (1997)

Takuro Yamashita, an office worker, is on his way home one day when he receives an anonymous letter.  The letter conveys that his wife is committing adultery whenever he goes on overnight fishing trips.  This leads to a vicious crime of passion for which he serves eight years in prison until he is released on probation.  At his release from imprisonment he brings his only friend, an eel.  The probation officer is somewhat flabbergasted over Yamashita's friend, however, accepts him and helps him get started again.  The Eel is a remarkable film about vulnerability and  the need for help support in order to succeed in a social context.  The film provides some valuable insights and leaves the audience to ponder about the eel's significance.
