DEEP END (2001)

Margaret Hall raises three children in the absence of her husband who is working at sea and is often away for long periods due to his job.  Their son Beau has recently been involved in a car accident in which his mother has found out that he has had a gay relationship with a man who is a little older than him.  She is simultaneously worried about how it will be perceived by the upper class community in which they live.  Thus, Margaret confronts Darby Reese, her son's boyfriend, and tells him to stay away from her son.  Late that same evening, Darby visits the Hall estate where Beau and Darby end up in a fight where Darby dies accidentally without Beau's knowledge.  The next morning Margaret finds the body and panic's.  She ties Darby's lifeless body to an anchor and tosses it into the clear water of Lake Tahoe.  This is the beginning of  the lies and problems that lay ahead in the story, which provides both suspense and contemplation.  When the end credits roll over the screen, the cinematic experience that was offered will fulfill those who were looking for a thriller as well as those who were looking for a film with some significant meaning.
