DAWN OF THE DEAD (2004)

Dawn of the Dead is a remake of George A. Romero's film with the same name, however, Snyder's adaptation of Romero's screenplay is a different story compared to the original from 1978.  Ana (Sarah Polley) wakes up one morning by being violently attacked by her husband who seems to be out to eat her.  Traumatized Ana escapes as she discovers an upside down city where people are attacking other people with the intention of eating them and during her get away she ends up in a car accident.  When she comes to Kenneth (Ving Rhames), a police officer, helps her and a small group of other survivors seek refuge in a local mall.  They lock themselves up in the mall with the hope of being saved by the government, but it seems pointless as no help comes.  Dawn of the Dead is a horror film with interesting effects and hilarious sarcasm, but the story cannot measure up with Romero's original film since this version becomes slightly awkward toward the last act of the film.  However, Snyder's creation displays horror and suspense that offers a decent cinematic experience.
