Frank Abagnale Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brought up in a home where everything seems to be perfect. Frank Abagnale Sr. (Christopher Walken) is awarded the Rotary Clubs annual award and his mother Paula Abagnale is happily dancing with Frank Sr. at home. An early morning before school starts Frank Sr. awakens Frank Jr. in order to get him a suit and make him look like a driver as Frank Sr. attempts to get some money from the bank. However, it seems like Frank Sr. has committed tax evasion and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is now auditing his papers. In the process the family loses the luxurious house that they live in and are forced to move into a small apartment. It does not take long before the family begins to fall apart and the mother wants a divorce. For Frank Jr., the perfect family is about to shatter. This results in Frank Jr. running away from home, since he wants to get away from the emotional pain he faces. However, it does not take long before Frank Jr.'s money runs out and he is trying to write checks that will bounce in order to live. After bouncing checks he finds out that he can con Pan Am for money, and he begins to dream of the perfect family again. However, these lies are being covered by other lies and before Frank Jr. realizes it he has the FBI after him with the stubborn Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) in the lead. Frank Jr. realizes that he has to escape the long arm of the law as he is getting deeper and deeper into his own lies. Eventually Frank Jr. cannot separate lies from the truth and it seems impossible to run away from his own dishonesty. Leonardo DiCaprio performs flawlessly as Frank Jr. as is supported by a terrific cast of actors such as Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen, and many others. In addition, the score is sublime, providing another dimension of urgency as Frank Jr. is repeatedly trying to escape. As a result, the audience will face an uplifting film that will rub the mind on many different levels. |
